X Marks the Spot

Some effect are just happenstance in photographs. Such was the case with this image that I made of a couple paddling their kayaks on the Vermilion River. I just happened to catch them as both had their paddles in position to form the letter X.

There’s an adage of “I’d rather be lucky than good” that I’ve never quite accepted, but in the case of this image it seems rather apt.

Where the Wind Takes Him

It was rather windy on Lake Michigan at Grand Haven, Michigan, on the day of my visit. That made for good conditions for parakiting.

I watched this guy with his kite as it took him to and fro, back and forth, all over the water not far from the beach. In time he was joined by another skier. Or are they called kiters?

A Nice Day for a Hula Hoop in Kent

leave a comment »

It is late February and the temperatures are warm for a change. Much of the snow has melted and maybe there is even a hint of spring in the air.

I was hanging out in Kent, Ohio, standing on the Main Street Bridge over the Cuyahoga River.

A woman and her hula hoop caught my attention. There is park along the river below the bridge. It’s a great place to people watch as on weekend ¬†you can expect a steady stream of people coming and going in the park and doing all manner of activities.

But this is the first and thus far only time I’ve seen someone bring a hula hoop to the park.
