Not Quite Classic Anymore

The era of building classic lighthouses in America is long past. There is still a need for navigational lights along major waterways, but the lights are mounted on functional poles and other structures.

Such is the case with this light at the entrance to the harbor that leads to Holland, Michigan, from Lake Michigan.

There is a traditional lighthouse on the other side of the harbor entrance that has been nicely maintained. And there is this.

In the background the skies over Lake Michigan are looking threatening and later tonight that light might be a welcome sight for some.
