Fall Foliage in Pennsylvania

I was headed home on U.S. Route 22 in western Pennsylvania and had just passed the summit of the Laurel Highlands.

As the road descended on the west slope of the mountain I had just crested, I was treated to the best autumn foliage display I had seen all day.

I flipped back around to retrace my path and pulled over to get some photographs.

I wish I knew this region better as there must be many good vantage points from which to record the fall foliage.

It’s Gonna Be a Great Day

I’m heading eastbound in the pre-darkness hours on U.S. Route 22 east of Pittsburgh.  Somewhere beyond Blairsville, Pennsylvania, I got a glimpse of the sun rising over the Allegheny Mountains.

My destination was central Pennsylvania for an all-day fall foliage photography outing.

It was one of the more colorful sunrises that I’ve seen and I had to pull over where I could get a clear view. I’m glad I did because it got the day off to a good start.

Fog, Sunrise, Clouds

Some of the more intriguing images I’ve made have come to me as I was a passenger in an automobile on trip. Typically, it was early morning or late day and the scene involved sunrise or sunset.

This image was made in December 2015 near Altoona, Pennsylvania.

It was cloudy, but not so overcast that I couldn’t see the sun. The fog had mostly lifted, but continued to blanket the low-lying areas in the valleys.

The interplay of the sun and the clouds made for some interesting patterns. Sometimes, it’s nice to be the passenger rather than the driver.
