Seeing Things, Saying Things

Musings About Writing, Photography and Teaching

About Craig Sanders

with one comment

I’m a writer, a teacher, a photographer and whole lot of other things. I’ve published five books on railroad history and you can find information about them elsewhere on this site. I’ve been interested in writing as long as I can remember. For the first decade or so of my career, I worked at daily newspapers in Illinois and Indiana.

For the past couple of decades, I’ve been a communications professor, teaching courses in journalism and public relations. Along the way I’ve also taught about the process of mass communication, but I don’t do that so much anymore.

Since my 20s I’ve been a photographer, although it would be more accurate to say that I dabbled in photography more than did it. In the past several years, though, I’ve renewed my love of photography. Much of my photos are of railroad operations, but I still record other things that I see.

I’ve spent nearly all of my life in the Midwest. Since 1993 I’ve lived in suburban Cleveland, a region that is ostensibly the Midwest, but in reality seems to strange a transition zone between the Midwest and East.

My wife, Mary Ann is also a writer and we met at a newspaper in Indiana. She has made her career in the newspaper business, most recently as a copy editor.
