Last of the Morning Mist

leave a comment »

It was one of those days when I wished I had gotten an earlier start. The cool morning air had created heavy fog in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, but most of it had lifted by the time I arrived.

But the fog and mist still clung to some low lying areas, including this pond along Riverside Road near Jaite.

I pulled over to make this portrait of the last of the mist over the water. I had to act fast because the morning sun was burning off the fog right before me.

I’m told that this pond used to belong to a family named Jaite that had a home here.

I’m not sure if that family was connected to the former Jaite Paper Mill that stood near here, but maybe it was.

Today the home is gone and many probably don’t know there used be a homestead here. The pond and surrounding land are now part of the CVNP.
