I had to get out a map and find this church in order to identify it. When I made this photograph in early November I only knew this was a church located in Akron, Ohio.

I was drawn to the image by the symmetry of the tree on the right with the steeple on the left.

This is St. Mary Church and School, located at 750 S. Main St. The church opened in 1916, but the community was established in South Akron in 1887 as St. Vincent Parish.

You may notice that the moved earth in the foreground. It is part of the construction of a new exit ramp from Interstates 76/77 to Main Street. Next year this view won’t be the same.

When this image was made, the church had celebrated its 100th anniversary less than a month earlier. Here is to another 100 years of service.
