It Doesn’t Look Like it Was Built in 1917

I didn’t know until I did some crash research that the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company hangar at Wingfoot Lake near Akron, Ohio, was built in 1917.

The Goodyear website notes that the hangar is the oldest airship facility and one of the oldest active aircraft bases in the world.

Maybe it doesn’t look so old because it appears to be well maintained and has been modernized.

This image of the reflection of the Goodyear hangar in the calm water of Wingfoot Lake was made from Wingfoot Lake State Park.

A friend and I had come to the park to watch the arrival of the Goodyear blimp Wingfoot Two, which was arriving on a flight from Columbus after having flown over an Ohio State University football game the night before.
