Crashing Waves and a Lighthouse

leave a comment »

Headlands Beach State Park on Lake Erie has a mile-long natural sand beach that is the longest in Ohio.

At east end of the beach lies the Headlands Dunes and beyond that is the Fairport Harbor West Breakwater Lighthouse.

The lighthouse is easily accessible from the beach although getting there involves walking through sand and along large rocks that have been placed as rip rap.

But seeing the stately lighthouse makes the trek well worthwhile.

This image takes a wider view of the beach and lighthouse. I’ve been down to the lighthouse many time, but I still enjoy this view each time that I see it. There is something about the sound and sight of crashing waves that you don’t get anywhere else except with a large body of water.
