Musings About Writing, Photography and Teaching

Road to Infinity

I made this photograph while traveling to Seattle aboard an Amtrak train in May 2014. It is early morning in western Washington state and we’re traveling on a high plateau that is open and flat.

We’ve crossing over a rural road that stretches as far as I can see.

Out here you can see the meaning of isolation. The road appears to be well maintained and I can only wonder why a bridge was built to carry the tracks over this highway.

I don’t know the name of this highway or where it goes. All I can determine is that it leads beyond the horizon, wherever that may be.
